SIG ZANE DESIGN

Rumi has long admired the Sig Zane brand for its deep connection to Hawaiian history and its educational approach through vibrant prints. When the chance to collaborate with Nalani, Sig, and the SZD team arose in 2023, Rumi saw an opportunity to blend her own passion for cultural heritage with their renowned craftsmanship.

For this collaboration, SZD provided Rumi with four new, vibrant prints on classic cotton broadcloth. Rumi added new designs to the existing collection, including a shirt and pants, while ensuring every detail met her high standards. With everything produced locally at her Kaimuki studio, she personally oversaw the entire process, from cutting and sewing to hand-finishing with natural shell buttons.

Excited by the success of their initial releases, Rumi looks forward to unveiling new and exclusive designs in their upcoming collection.

TUTUVI

10 years ago, Rumi met Colleen Kimura, a Hawai‘i-based screenprint artist and creator of the brand Tutuví. Rumi was immediately captivated by Kimura’s bold use of color and large-scale illustrations of Pacific flora and fauna. In the spring of 2019, they began discussing a collaboration, which ultimately led to the creation of the UMAMI collection—a dream realized for both.
